When you realise 100 miles is harder then you believed!

Monday 23rd Mar
Well  I think this week brought home to us all the reality of the challenge of 100 miles on your body and your time!  For me going from a completely sedentary lifestyle to one where I need to walk 3.5 miles a day has been hard but also rewarding.  My knee was dodgy before I started, improved at first, and now is feeling the strain again; then I went and injured my shoulder carrying 9 litres of water plus my rucksack and shopping!  So my Maida Vale/Hampstead walk had to be cancelled on Saturday (sorry Scotty and Melissa).  Did almost 7 1/2 miles in Surrey on Saturday with my bestie Frannie to try and make up for it, but bwoy am I paying for it now! Here's a few shots of our walk over Reigate Hill.

Projects funded by RNOH Charity

Monday 16th Mar

I’ve now reached the half way mark in my Move 100 miles in March challenge, and wanted to let you know about some of the wonderful things the RNOH Charity has done with funds raised by generous donors like you.

The RNOH Charity has funded a range of projects which were simply not affordable within the limits of NHS funding. These include:

-Children's halo traction wheelchair

-New Imaging Centre

-Lyra Gait Trainer

-Spinal Cord Injury Centre dayroom renovation

-Research into life beyond the hospital for better children's outcomes

-A range of enriching artwork to provide an uplifting experience for our patients

-Bone surgery research

-The Stanmore Building (the new ward block)

-Two new therapy gyms to assist our patients’ rehabilitation

-An interactive children’s activity centre

-Enhancements and equipment for every single bed space in both the Children and Young People’s ward and Adult Acute wards

-An outdoor garden and play area for children undergoing treatment

-Pepper, an interactive robot designed to improve the experience of our young patients

-The infrastructure for a new private patient ward, which will generate vital funds for RNOH and help sustain the long-term future of our hospital

-Spinal Cord Injury Centre expansion

-The RNOH Volunteer Service

-Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit

-Supporting hospital staff

Week 1 update

Wednesday 11th Mar
I'm thrilled to say I completed 25 miles in week 1 and am on target to reach my 100 Miles in March!
I've walked part of the way to work and back every day, then on Saturday I enjoyed a lovely walk along the Grand Union Canal at Hanwell with my friend Charmaine, taking in the Asylum Lock and Three Bridges.
On Sunday I walked through Sydenham Woods with my friend Kirsty and sister Rama.
Both walks of course ended in a pub so loving my challenge so far!

Who knew?!

Tuesday 3rd Mar
I tell you what, this fundraising challenge has turned into what feels like a whole new lease of life to me!  Who'd a thunked it?  God works in mysterious ways!
