Your generosity has the power to change lives and contribute to medical progress

Christmas is a time for giving, for family and for joy - but for many Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) patients, it’s also a time spent battling chronic pain, facing life-changing injuries or managing serious illness. That is why, as 2024 draws to a close, your support of RNOH Charity is more important than ever. With your help, we can support RNOH to go beyond the limitations of an NHS budget. From state-of-the-art equipment to new hospital buildings, pioneering research and supporting the wellbeing of NHS staff, donations help RNOH continue to provide innovative treatments and care, helping more people lead healthier, fuller lives.

This Christmas, let’s make a real difference together.

“RNOH is one of the best orthopaedic hospitals in the world. From spinal surgery to prosthetics for veterans, their work needs extra support – beyond the NHS budget that they get. My recovery might not have gone the way it did without the support of that Charity - it saved my life and it may well save yours one day.” RNOH Charity Ambassador, Matt Forde

Meet RNOH patient James

In 2023, James underwent critical spinal surgery at RNOH to prevent paralysis caused by a slipped vertebra pressing against his spinal cord. His surgeon warned that he needed surgery within six months to avoid being paralysed from the neck down. James spent three challenging months on the London Irish Ward, undergoing three surgeries and nine weeks in halo traction where he had to lay flat in his bed. The halo traction device was attached to James' skull, and weights were added to gradually stretch his neck to create more space for the spinal cord before the final operation.

During his stay, James benefited greatly from RNOH Charity, which funded patient comforts such as TV screens, sofa beds and artwork, making his recovery environment more bearable. James said, "The staff and the charity at RNOH made my situation as comfortable as possible for me and honestly it saved my sanity during those nine weeks of lying flat, bedbound. I cannot thank the staff in the hospital enough, they made sure I was constantly okay and also provided some much needed social interaction.  The excellent treatment by the surgeons ensured I was able to walk out of the hospital and I can’t thank them enough for ensuring I can continue to walk in the future."

Your support today can provide patients like James with the help they need during their most challenging times.

A big thank you to our Supporters

Jeremy Aitchison

We are great supporters - we have done a lot for Ukraine this year so have had to spread what’s left a bit thinner. Keep up the good work.

Ron Stradling

I'm sorry this gift is so very late in the year and small, but I will never forget the care, expertise, attention to detail, help and guidance given by Mr Molloy and the numerous RNOH teams with whom I had the pleasure to meet while they were all looking after my late wife Mary (Chris) Stradling. A thank you can never be enough.
